Modern Tiny Tribe started with one dad, one crying kid, and a math worksheet that refused to cooperate — and a sister who believed it could be so much more.
How it started
It was a Tuesday night. My son was in tears.
Not because he didn't care. Because he cared so much — and math just wasn't clicking after a long day. I thought I was staying calm. I wasn't. And when he broke down, I realized the problem wasn't effort or love. It was that the way we were trying to learn wasn't built for real family life.
So I did what engineers do. I built something.
"I didn't set out to build a company. I set out to get through homework without anyone crying — including me."
With a background in engineering, I started creating simple tools: ways to generate math problems at the right level, short stories my son actually wanted to read, questions that checked understanding without pressure. Within a few weeks, something shifted. The stress faded. The tears stopped. We got our evenings back — time to connect instead of struggle.
The moment it became bigger
It took a sister, supportive parents and spouses, and a whole lot of faith.
When I shared what I'd built with my sister, she saw something I hadn't yet. She's a mom too — juggling the same chaotic evenings, the same mental load, the same wish for just a little more time. She didn't just cheer me on. She jumped in.
Together, we turned a personal fix into something real. Her perspective as a mom shaped every tool we built after that. And through all of it, our family was there — our parents, our original tribe, reminding us that showing up for each other is exactly what families do.
That's where the name comes from. Not just the little ones in our lives — but the whole tribe that makes everything possible.
